The Federal Government provides grants to purchase an LPG vehicle or for converting a diesel or petrol vehicle to run on LPG. The Federal Government rebate is claimed through medicare or centrelink.

 

The "LPG Vehicle Scheme" commenced on 14 August 2006, runs until 30 June 2014 (8 Years) and is administered by AusIndustry.

The grants include the following:

 

  1. $1,750 toward the cost of an LPG conversion of a new or used motor vehicle for non-business use
  2. To be eligible the vehicle must be for private use (not for commercial or business use) and:

 

  1. Any passenger or light commercial vehicle less than 3.5 tonnes
  2. Must be registered in the state of residence of the claimant
  3. Vehicle must not be subject to a novated lease or salary sacrifice
  4. One conversion per person every three years
  5. Improve economy by a minimum of 20%

 

  • You will need to pay for the purchase or conversion first and then claim back the grant from either a Centrelink or Medicare office.

 

Applications can be submitted from 1 October 2006 and you will need a receipt for the installation or purchase showing a payment date of 14 Aug 2006 or later.
